<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><calendar>Calendar No. 339</calendar><congress>118th CONGRESS</congress><session>2d Session</session><legis-num>S. 1274</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20230425">April 25, 2023</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S357">Mrs. Fischer</sponsor> (for herself, <cosponsor name-id="S311">Ms. Klobuchar</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S307">Mr. Brown</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S423">Mr. Ricketts</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S313">Mr. Sanders</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S372">Mrs. Capito</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S397">Mr. Braun</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S309">Mr. Casey</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S354">Ms. Baldwin</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S266">Mr. Crapo</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S411">Mr. Marshall</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S363">Mr. King</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="S399">Mr. Hawley</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSBU00" added-display-style="italic" deleted-display-style="strikethrough">Committee on the Budget</committee-name></action-desc></action><action stage="Reported-in-Senate"><action-date date="20240306">March 6, 2024</action-date><action-desc>Reported by <sponsor name-id="S316">Mr. Whitehouse</sponsor>, without amendment</action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To permanently exempt payments made from the Railroad Unemployment Insurance Account from sequestration under the Balanced Budget and Emergency Deficit Control Act of 1985.</official-title></form><legis-body display-enacting-clause="yes-display-enacting-clause"><section section-type="section-one" id="S1"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short titles</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Railroad Employee Equity and Fairness Act</short-title></quote> or the <quote><short-title>REEF Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="H9F22EA9A49B64FF39262A9F9006496FE"><enum>2.</enum><header>Treatment of payments from the Railroad Unemployment Insurance Account</header><subsection id="idF4D7062848FD4B6496C3CA8130048069"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Amendments</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Section 235 of the Continued Assistance to Rail Workers Act of 2020 (subchapter III of title II of division N of <external-xref legal-doc="public-law" parsable-cite="pl/116/260">Public Law 116–260</external-xref>; <external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/2/906">2 U.S.C. 906</external-xref> note) is amended—</text><paragraph id="idA4120B567404499EA023C7B5467221AC"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">in subsection (b)—</text><subparagraph id="id6D92E49D477740E9BF68BB8B357C4EAD"><enum>(A)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">by striking paragraphs (1) and (2); and</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="idFD9EC82656D8413689450B6E339E9C5D"><enum>(B)</enum><text>by striking <quote>subsection (a)—</quote> and inserting <quote>subsection (a) shall take effect 7 days after the date of enactment of the Continued Assistance to Rail Workers Act of 2020.</quote>; and</text></subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph id="id8ACB8B3311D54BDF96BF014349D2E066"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by striking subsection (c). </text></paragraph></subsection><subsection commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H7DE071483450444C9FBD8A43912AC669"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Applicability</header><text>The amendments made by subsection (a) shall apply as if enacted on the day before the date on which the national emergency concerning the novel coronavirus disease (COVID–19) outbreak declared by the President on March 13, 2020, under the National Emergencies Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/50/1601">50 U.S.C. 1601 et seq.</external-xref>) terminates. </text></subsection></section></legis-body><endorsement><action-date date="20240306">March 6, 2024</action-date><action-desc>Reported without amendment</action-desc></endorsement></bill>
