<congress>One Hundred Eighteenth Congress of the United States of America</congress><session display="yes">2d Session</session><enrolled-dateline display="yes">Begun and held at the City of Washington on Wednesday, the third day of January, two thousand and twenty four</enrolled-dateline><legis-num display="yes">S. 3222</legis-num><current-chamber display="no">IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><legis-type display="yes">AN ACT</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To ensure the security of office space rented by Senators, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body style="OLC" display-enacting-clause="yes-display-enacting-clause"><section id="id14faef7a0b0f454086524e58380d4f3f" section-type="section-one" commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>1.</enum><header display-inline="yes-display-inline">Security of office space rented by Senators</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 3 of the Legislative Branch Appropriation Act, 1975 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/2/6317">2 U.S.C. 6317</external-xref>) is amended—</text><paragraph id="idf044d6a88da44d17a4732cceb15f810a" commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">in subsection (b)—</text><subparagraph id="id23f0bfc3db4140f183c4ba21c70b4fcc" commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>(A)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">by redesignating paragraphs (1) through (12) as subparagraphs (A) through (L), respectively;</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="id296562864b5c4874876f8f52ca0215df" commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>(B)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">by striking <quote>The aggregate</quote> and inserting <quote>(1) Subject to paragraph (2), the aggregate</quote>; and</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="idc5a7c1c3b64047a5b39ee4bf7375414f" commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>(C)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">by adding at the end the following:</text><quoted-block style="OLC" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id3d3844edc23a48bd8711c4c153fd33d8"><paragraph id="idee7194616ab8407996efcece7398b22f" indent="up1" commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The aggregate square feet of office space for purposes of paragraph (1) shall not include any portion of the office space used for security or safety enhancements that are—</text><subparagraph id="idcb02738ab26e49a1ad8136606cf06a58" commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>(A)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">of a kind authorized by the Committee on Rules and Administration of the Senate, which shall include an information technology security closet and a secure lobby or reception area; and</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="idcfea5ec67b3249c095bc5f565257d9cc" commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>(B)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">approved by the Sergeant at Arms and Doorkeeper of the Senate.</text></subparagraph></paragraph><after-quoted-block display="yes">; and</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph id="id522a280e95da46aa8078df462408b4d6" commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">in subsection (c)(1)—</text><subparagraph id="idbe333cc8fa354f67a3162b9b5fd4ff41" commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>(A)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">by striking <quote>The maximum</quote> and inserting <quote>(A) Subject to subparagraph (B), the maximum</quote>; and</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="id7eb3698268124ff49be7a7831d435c3b" commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>(B)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">by adding at the end the following:</text><quoted-block id="id23e22d3c4d2f4ddfb2b76f31ca1d4670" display-inline="no-display-inline" style="OLC"><subparagraph id="idc060016e11fb4856ad2bb17410a8863f" indent="up2" commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>(B)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The portion of the cost of a rental described in subparagraph (A) that is attributable to building security and safety measures shall not be included in determining the annual rate paid for the rental for purposes of subparagraph (A) if—</text><clause id="ida0514cbe5ed64968bc2e603f2852d5d0" commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>(i)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">the costs are for building security and safety measures—</text><subclause id="ide2b92ebf31af4a60b682997395503399" commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>(I)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">of a kind authorized by the Committee on Rules and Administration of the Senate, which shall include guard services, access control, and facility monitoring; and<pagebreak></pagebreak></text></subclause><subclause id="ide915f1641ed349aaa1a118c30ef224ce" commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>(II)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">approved by the Sergeant at Arms and Doorkeeper of the Senate; and</text></subclause></clause><clause id="idefdd3f77b8764b508ad6849fc1beec91" commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>(ii)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">such costs are itemized separately in a manner approved by the Sergeant at Arms and Doorkeeper of the Senate.</text></clause></subparagraph><after-quoted-block display="yes">.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></subparagraph></paragraph></section></legis-body><attestation><attestation-group><attestor display="no"></attestor><role>Speaker of the House of Representatives</role></attestation-group><attestation-group><attestor display="no"></attestor><role>Vice President of the United States and President of the Senate</role></attestation-group></attestation></bill> |
